Spinach Benefits and Recipes

Welcome to March, everyone! As the spring season rolls in, so too comes a full array of delicious green veggies to enjoy. At 3 Guys From Brooklyn, all month long we are celebrating green veggies with our focus on - Ready, Set, GREEN!

This week, we’re turning our focus on one of the most popular greens - spinach! Packed with fiber and antioxidants and the ability to be used in so many recipes, spinach should be a must have in your grocery cart this month.

Let’s discuss what makes spinach so special and how you can incorporate it into your diet.

Health Benefits of Spinach

Spinach is known as a superfood because it is loaded with vitamins such as A and K, magnesium, folate, iron, calcium and even protein. Eating spinach helps maintain healthy skin due to its antioxidant properties that help protect cells from environmental damage. It also helps lower cholesterol levels and prevents constipation thanks to its high fiber content. These health benefits make spinach an amazing addition to any meal or snack.

Using Spinach in Your Diet

The best part about spinach is that you can use it in virtually any dish - salads, sandwiches, soups or even smoothies! Whole leaf spinach is great for adding texture and flavor to dishes while baby spinach has a milder taste that works well when making sauces or dips. If you’re looking for something quick and easy yet still nutritious try adding some sautéed garlic with baby spinach on top of toast or making a hearty soup with potatoes and whole leaf spinach. For those looking for more adventurous recipe, try using frozen chopped spinach as an ingredient in lasagna or adding some fresh baby spinach leaves into your next batch of pancakes! The possibilities really are endless when it comes to incorporating this green veggie into your diet.

Green Juice Recipe

Now let's get creative! Here at 3 Guys From Brooklyn we love juicing as an easy way to pack lots of nutrients into one glass without sacrificing flavor. This month we have an exciting recipe that takes advantage of all the fresh greens available - Green Juice with Spinach! All you need is: 2 cups baby spinach leaves; 1/2 cucumber; 2 celery stalks; 1/2 lemon; 1 inch piece ginger root; 1 small apple sliced; 1/4 cup parsley (optional). Blend all ingredients together until desired consistency is reached and enjoy! Getting creative with your greens shouldn't have to be intimidating - there really isn't much you can do wrong other than maybe overdoing some spices here or there (which can always be remedied by squeezing some extra lemon). With all these delicious seasonal vegetables now available at 3 Guys from Brooklyn why not give them each their own chance? Start off March right by introducing yourself (or reintroducing) to all things green like we did here with our favorite green powerhouse - SPINACH!! Happy eating everyone!! Ready, Set GREEN!!!
