EBT SNAP Participants Will Now Be Able to Use Their Benefits Online at Local Open-Air Market, Three Guys From Brooklyn
Brooklyn, February 2022 — Three Guys from Brooklyn, an independent grocer located in the borough’s Bay Ridge neighborhood, is announcing that it will now accept Electronic Benefits Transfer Supplemental Nutrition and Assistance Program (EBT SNAP) for same-day delivery via Instacart, the leading online grocery platform in North America. With this program, EBT SNAP participants will now be able to use their benefits to access fresh food and pantry staples online from Three Guys from Brooklyn’s landmark location in Brooklyn, on 65th and Fort Hamilton.
This launch follows the USDA Food and Nutrition Service’s most recent approval allowing Three Guys from Brooklyn and Instacart to launch their SNAP online partnership. With transportation often serving as a barrier to the grocery store, Three Guys from Brooklyn delivery via Instacart hopes to make accessing food easier for customers.

The COVID-19 pandemic has driven historically high rates of food insecurity, or the inability to reliably afford or access sufficient quantities of healthy foods, nationwide and thousands of low-income households in New York. According to City Harvest, since the COVID-19 outbreak, nearly 1.5 million New Yorkers currently experience food insecurity, including one in four children. Specifically in Brooklyn, there are over 400,000 Brooklyn residents impacted by food insecurity.

As of December 2021, there were nearly 2.8 million SNAP recipients across New York, about an 8 percent increase from the same month in 2019, according to the state’s Office of Temporary and Disability Service.

To help subsidize costs for EBT SNAP participants, Instacart is waiving the delivery and pickup fees on all EBT SNAP orders through March 31, 2022 for customers using a valid EBT card associated with their Instacart account in connection with their purchase.

Where available, EBT SNAP participants will now be able to shop from 3 Guys via the Instacart website and mobile app. Once an Instacart customer profile is created, customers can enter their EBT food card information as a form of payment in their profile. Customers will need a secondary form of payment for non-food items such as taxes, tips and fees per federal SNAP guidelines. Customers can then enter their zip code to determine if they are near a participating retailer, and begin shopping and selecting items from retailers’ EBT-eligible products. Once items are added to their cart, customers will be able to select how much of their benefits they would like to allocate to the order. Orders for delivery and pickup can be placed by customers for receipt in as fast as an hour or scheduled several days in advance.
